2007 MOCCA musings!

Haven't had much time since MOCCA last weekend to post anything about the show. It was my first time having a table,
and I had a really fun time. I didn't get to walk around very much, but what I did see was great, and all of the people who came up to my table were
first rate. I was also thrilled to meet a couple of my favorite artists, who went on to embarass and humble me by saying that they are fans of my miniscule body of work. All in all, I had a great time, and I look forward to next year. Below is a terrifying photo taken by Heidi Macdonald of "the beat" blog fame. I look terrific......

RENEGADE CRAFT FAIR!

If you are going to be in the NY area this week come see me at the Renegade Craft Fair in Williamsburg, Brooklyn this Sat and Sunday from 11Am - 6PM. I will be at the Reprodepot booth. If I'm not there, there will be other fabulous people to help you navigate through my stuff and the MOUNTAINS of fabric!(I won't have the new sugar booger comic yet, but i'll have other fun stuff, so check it out!) Went to a beautiful mid-century landmark in NYC this past weekend (Lever House) for an art opening, and was stunned by a giant statue out front. It is by artworld "bad boy" Damien Hirst. The subject matter is of course somewhat edgy, but it was the sheer size of the thing that made it stand out. I stood below(and above)it and it was fun to examine it from all sides. I think the building still came out the winner for sheer beauty and style.

I'll have a slew of new work (8 small colored drawings to be exact) in this show opening June 16th in LA. The line-up is incredible as usual, and I really wish I could see all the work in person. Giant Robot continues it's impeccable run of shows!

    EGYPT BUNCAKE = MARC BELL

Just got back from a trip to NYC. While I was there I made a long overdue visit to the Adam Baumgold gallery (74 E 79th street @ Park Ave) to see a show by one of my favorite artists,(and a really nice guy too)MARC BELL. This is his third solo show at Mr. Baumgold's gallery and one of his best. I am always blown away by Marc's work, but I have never seen so many of his originals all in one room. He also did some terrific collaborations with the amazing Christian Schumann, their styles really compliment each other twisting inside and out of my brain. I could have spent many hours there pouring over the details, but alas I had a sleeping 3 year old and a lovely but tired wife to attend to in the car outside. The show is up for a couple more weeks, and I highly recommend it.
